Some Yamaha seats have a shallow foam depth. So a medium/firm foam density is needed to keep riders from riding on the plastic seat base below. If you want more comfort from your stock seat, then the key is added width which provides more support for a better foam density. Yamaha seats with a shallow OEM foam depth limit how low the seat can be made. For example, the 2008+ XT250 seat has the potential to be lowered 2", but only if you're seated 8"+ from the rear. As the back portion of the seat foam is much thinner. Riders who sit forward over the pegs or against the gas tank may prefer the width up further, up to 6" wide over the pegs. This will make the seat feel taller and more difficult to straddle. We only do this if asked, but is a common build for supermoto bikes and snowbikes. For snowbikes, we have snow specific vinyls available, ask.

Most Yamaha seats are equipped with a factory cover that allows for a 10"+ wide seat. There are exceptions like the 2018+ YZ450F, YZ250F, WR450F, and WR250F seats that are fairly small and only allow a 9½" wide seat with the factory cover (BR9-24710-A1-00, BR9-24710-C1-00). We recommend the 10"+ width or more for riders who sit down the majority of the time, which may require a new cover of your choice ($59.99). Seat covers with Yamaha logos will likely end up having the logos on top after widening. Custom covers can be made and integrate the factory logos from your existing cover.
